Custom Marine Canvas & Upholstery

Serving the Salish Sea since 2014

Sew Salty builds intuitive and rugged designs to meld your boat lines and purpose.

Canvas to extend the life of investments and soft goods to aid the quest for a safer, comfier and easier time afloat. We use Solarfix, a lifetime PTFE thread for all exterior stitching.

Dodgers

One of our favorite things to build. I enjoy consulting aboard, eyeing the space customers need for free clear movement, visibility and protection. Happy to re-skin deserving frames or bend new bows to improve water shedding and aesthetics.

Upholstery

Being aboard for extended periods gets funky and uncomfortable without the right foam and cushion shapes. Happy to share what I’ve learned in years of questing perfect foam recipes for comfort, durability, weight savings and breathability.

Sundry

Helm, windlass, winch, hatch, seat covers etc

Repairs

Re-stitch before it’s too late! This little clip shows the needle vs fingernail tests for knowing when it’s time to bring canvas you’d rather keep in one piece in for a tune up. ASAP if topstitching is completely gone or fails under fingernail scraping. Delaying maintenance until next off season should be OK if it requires a needle to break the thread, but keep it on your radar!

About Marti

Marti Evans is a lifetime seamstress and boater who was giddy to discover the two could be seamlessly combined. Sailmaking thrust her into 8 years of living aboard, cruising and racing the Salish Sea from Port Townsend to Alaska, Portland to Ballard and into a family life ashore in Anacortes. Her adjunct experience in auto interior restoration (upholstery & trimming) employs the days better spent inside.
